Items needed: Large Flag, flashlights for each girl.
People needed: 13 girls and Narrator
Directions: All girls stand in semi-circle and point their flashlights
at the flag. Overhead lights are turned off.
Narrator: We often recite the Pledge of Allegiance without really
listening to or understanding the words we are saying. Tonight, we will
recite it and try to explain the meaning of each word.
Girl 1: I...
Narrator: I, an individual, a committee of one
Girl 2: Pledge...
Narrator: Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity
Girl 3: Allegiance...
Narrator: My love and devotion
Girl 4: To the flag...
Narrator: Our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of Freedom, dignity, respect and
loyalty
Girl 5: Of the United...
Narrator: Means that we are one - that we have all come together
Girl 6: States of America...
Narrator: Individual communities that have united into 50 great states - with
pride, dignity and purpose, all separated by imaginary boundaries, yet united in
a common bond - love for country.
Girl 7: And to the Republic...
Narrator: A state in which a sovereign power is invested in representatives
chose by the people to govern.
Girl 8: For which it stands...
Narrator: and the government is the people, and it's from the people to
the leaders, not from the leaders to the people
Girl 9: One Nation, under God...
Narrator: Meaning - so blessed by God
Girl 10: Indivisible...
Narrator: Incapable of being divided
Girl 11: With liberty...
Narrator: Which is freedom, the right to live ones own life without
threats or fear of some sort of revenge
Girl 12: And Justice...
Narrator: the principle, or qualities of dealing fairly with others
Girl 13: For All...
Narrator: Which means it is your country as much as it is mine.
Would you please stand and everyone say the Pledge of Allegiance together...
I pledge...
Narrator: Thank You, Please be seated.
Rededication Ceremony

Note: This was designed for older girls to rededicate themselves to
Girl Scouting. It also reflects the recent events of September 11th in the
wording.
Source: Adapted from the GSUSA Ceremony Book
Items needed: 3 candles & holders, matches (see Safteywise for guidelines
when using fire). We often use a green table cloth with white lace over
and place daisy's on the table (we have some silk ones we keep for ceremonies).
People needed: 12 girls & Leader
Directions: All girls stand in semi-circle around table where candles
are placed.
Girl 1: Tonight we rededicate ourselves to the ideals of Girl
Scout. These three candles represent the three parts of the Girl Scout
Promise.
Girl 2: On my honor, I will try...
Girl 3: To serve God and my country (Girl 1 lights first candle)
Girl 4: to help people at all times (Girl 1 lights second candle)
Girl 5: And to live by the Girl Scout Law (Girl 1 lights third candle)
Girl 6: the Promise and the law offer useful guidance for making
decisions and can help you identify personal values that will give meaning and
direction to your life. We will now review the 10 parts of the Girl Scout
Law.
Girl 7: I will do my best to be
Honest and fair, friendly and helpful,
Considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
Girl 8: And to respect myself and others,
Respect authority, use resources wisely,
Make the world a better place, and
Be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Girl 9: As part of Girl Scouting, there are signs and symbols that have
been passed from generation to generation of Girl Scouts. Tonight, as we
rededicate ourselves, we commit again to these traditions.
Girl 10: The Girl Scout Motto is "Be prepared"
Girl 11: These words have new meaning as American's have faced the tragedy
of September 11th. Girl Scouts can lead the way by being prepared for any
emergency that may occur.
Girl 12: The Girl Scout Slogan is "Do a Good Turn
Daily." American's have banded together to help one another - but a
good turn goes beyond that. It is the offer, freely given, to help with
out the need to ask. To remind us of our goal to offer help each day,
without being asked, our patrol leaders will help each troop member turn over
their Girl Scout pin. When you have done a good turn, you can turn your
pin back over!
Leader: Congratulations on your rededication - and best wishes for
another successful year in Girl Scouting!
