Summer Interest Project Patch Activities

Here is a great summer activity for the entire family!  Work together to complete the Family Matters IPP!  As I mentioned at the End of the Year Ceremony - this is an Interest Project Patch that cannot be completed by the troop, it requires family participation!  So if you lost the original handout, print out the information below, post it on your 'fridge and have a fun summer working together on the Family Matters IPP.

Activity

Date Completed

June 25-29

Arrange a family meeting to discuss two or three important issues that your family has experienced some conflict over: too much TV, curfews, household responsibilities and sibling arguments are some possibilities. Each person should have an opportunity to express their feelings as well as listen respectfully to others. Aim at reaching an agreement on at least one of the issues.

July 2-6

Plan a special family meal (to celebrate July 4th?). Choose people to do the following: shop for the food, cook the meal, set the table and do the clean-up. Be certain to assign tasks to ALL family members.

July 9-20

Create a "family time" activity. Family members have busy schedules. Quality time together is often limited. Think of activities that will preserve and reinforce your family relationships like reading to a younger sibling, helping a parent or grand parent learn computer skills, or playing board games.

July 23-Aug 23

Take on an area at home that you will be personally responsible for, like laundry, food shopping or menu planning. Come up with timely and create ways to tackle tedious chores. Follow through for at least one month.

Aug 6-10

What does it cost your family to operate the household for one month? Work with your parents to create a family budget (or review one already in place.) Include costs for food, housing, clothing, transportation, child care, allowances, entertainment, insurance, and debt repayment. Compare your family's expenses with their income. Discuss with your family the types of financial problems you can avoid when using a budget.

Aug 13-17

Take a trip to a computer store. Review the computer software that could be used in your household for task managements and for fun. Which software programs are most worthwhile?

Aug 20-24

Clean out your families closets and help families in need in your community. Collect and donate outgrown clothing to a local shelter to help families as they prepare for back to school.
